The Sustainable Schools Network broke away from the metropolitan focus with a major event in Townsville, at which teams from state, church and independent schools showcased some very exciting sustainability projects. The host school, St Patrick’s College, situated in a very commanding position along The Strand, Townsville’s city esplanade, is a girls’ school with many Indigenous students from remote communities living in during term. Students’ environmental service projects with Corals orchestrated by energetic Marine Studies teacher Chris Pacey. Entrepreneurial projects presented by senior students also showed a strong environmental focus. An active presence was the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA), an effective long-term provider of Environmental Education in Queensland.
